Brazil will soon have the first implementation of IoT (Internet of Things) via satellite. Telecommunications operator Sateliot and Constanta Group announced the joint development of LEO, power distribution infrastructure. The Constanta Group is made up of the Laager companies, Nexum IoT and HartBR, in addition to the Constanta Institute of Innovation (ICI), and the strategic partnership provides mobile coverage for devices across the group, with an initial focus on the utilities and energy sector.
Innovation will expand the coverage and reach of connectivity, contributing to more efficiency in monitoring and managing infrastructures. The project is still in its initial phase, where the foundations will first be built to then expand connectivity effectively, with implementation in public lighting, energy efficiency, basic sanitation, agriculture and smart cities. The alliance will be possible because the Sateliot network is compatible with 3GPP standards, that governs terrestrial NB-IoT.
That's why, LEO satellite connectivity would only depend on certification and configurations, dispensing with a new hardware model. “LEO satellite connectivity based on open standards is opening new opportunities for countries with large landmasses and growing digital ambitions. Brazil is one of the clearest examples of this potential, and we are excited to contribute to its next phase of growth.”, said Gianluca Redolfi, CCO from operator Sateliot.
Expansion of the connectivity mesh
The partnership between the companies represents an important advance for national technology. Right now, the Constanta Group is completing the qualification process, aiming for business connection with devices from even more distant regions. The project also provides direct benefits to the corporate environment, such as asset monitoring, detailed detection of technologies, updated maintenance and reduced field visits.
The CEO of Constanta argues that the country needs solutions that reach places where traditional networks still cannot reach. “This alliance with Sateliot will allow us to expand the reach of our IoT solutions and help our customers digitize critical infrastructures that, until now, remained disconnected”, says Tavares.
