Visa plans to end credit cards through “tokenization”

To Visa, one of the main references in card supply, is working hard to digitize its payment methods. The company's next steps are to put an end to credit cards through the “tokenization” of assets. Like this, Visa seeks to establish its image as a company that is not just about cards, but, mainly, of technology.

For that, recently, investment in solutions such as blockchains have been the company's focus. According to the president of Visa in Brazil, Nuno Lopes, the company is adapting to the market and implementing new technologies like this, that enable the emergence of “programmable money”.

At the moment, the company is studying a project to integrate blockchains, in addition to mechanisms to create a generation platform, transferring and burning stablecoins. “Visa does not give credit, It's not a bank, it is a technology company that seeks to prove infrastructure, intelligence, services that allow transacting in different environments”, defends the president.

“Tokenization of everything”

The digitization of payments and the automation of the economy as a whole is a natural process, what, little by little, will be adopted by all companies in the sector. “It’s a market revolution. Pix advanced this. Before, digitalization was a part of the market that the industry approached timidly”, says Lopes.

As part of all these technologies is tokenization with strong potential. This is a technological process in which traditional assets can be inserted into blockchain networks, earning crypto versions. Due to greater fluidity and liquidity of tokens, the presidency argues that everything can be tokenized, from assets, credentials to other types of information.

A long journey

Visa has 60 years of operation and recognizes that digitalization will put an end to credit cards. But, The company's president claims to be working to make this happen as soon as possible. Despite this intention, Lopes states that this will be a slow process. In the end, All new technologies reinforce the importance of data security.

Nonetheless, the company stands out as one of the companies selected by the Central Bank to carry out pilot tests of Real Digital. Recently, the organization participated in the LIFT Challenge, the first stage in the development of Brazilian digitalized currency. For all this history, Visa is a payments company that is highly committed to studies focused on digital security.
