A new Google Maps feature will allow personalized itineraries to be automatically assembled for its users. Recommendations of places to visit will be generated using AI technology (Artificial intelligence). The new feature will provide the Maps community with segmented lists for a better travel experience.
In this way, Google will give you restaurant tips, establishments and tourist attractions from different perspectives. In addition to a personalized experience, The company's proposal is to encourage complete and authentic experiences. As per destination, AI will point out current trends, “mandatory” stops and, yet, highly rated places, although, less visited.
How the itinerary will work?
According to the company itself, Suggestions will be assembled from the user's preference history. Although, initially, The new feature will only be available in the United States and Canada for approximately 40 cities.
The personalized experience starts when you search for a city in the Google Maps app. On device screens, recommendations will be available in a section at the bottom.
Then, for suggestions to be displayed, the user must “pull” this type of tab to check the selected options. Recommendations will be segmented into three categories: “main trends”, “best places” and “hidden gems”. In them, users will be able to check:
- Main trends: updated list of places that have seen an increase in popularity in the last week.
- Best places: selection of mandatory points because they are highly frequented by the community on a consistent basis.
- Hidden Gems: interesting and highly rated places, although, still little explored by the general public.
AI technology will allow key information about a given location to be extracted through comments registered in the Maps community. In this way, the model will synthesize the experiences and reports of the public to create a description of the establishment. For example: type of food, average ticket and menu quality, beyond the characteristics of a restaurant.
Google will allow subsequent consultation
Plus restaurant suggestions, establishments and other tourist attractions, the itinerary will include information such as flight options, accommodation and attractions available. Google recommendations will be accompanied by important browsing data such as photos, consumer reviews and activity schedules.
That's why, a type of personalized itinerary report can be exported to the user's Gmail, allowing consultation at other times. Despite the new features presented, the company has not confirmed when or in which regions the feature will launch first.
