A Starlink, SpaceX initiative that seeks to bring high-speed internet to anywhere in the world via satellite, announced a new partnership in Brazil. Alares will be the latest ally of Elon Musk's company to expand operations in the country. The proposal is to combine the strengths of the two companies to expand the reach of fast internet and connect more customers.
Alares is one of the largest fixed broadband operators in Brazil, with a presence in 232 cities spread across seven states. With the partnership, Starlink now complements the company's operations by offering satellite connection in regions where fiber optic infrastructure is not yet available, such as areas outside large urban centers and rural areas.
Plans will be launched in May
Alares' plans with Starlink are expected to launch next month, similar to those already offered by Musk's company. Among the initial options, there will be more affordable packages, with speeds from 100 Mbps, in addition to more complete plans, that can reach 400 Mbps. Yet, extra services are planned, such as internet for travel and options for families with multiple connection points, with hiring based on need.
At the moment, beyond broadband, Alares offers TV services, streaming and other digital solutions in states like São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Bahia, Paraná and Paraíba. Starlink's expectation is to expand its presence in Brazil by making its services available through 129 operator's physical stores and reach a base of more than 825 thousand customers.
Beyond Alares, Algar Telecom also acts as a partner in the resale of Starlink services in the country. At the same time, Amazon advances in the development of its own satellite internet solution, a Amazon Leo, with infrastructure even for commercial planes.
