Twitter's fact-checking program will be expanded. Now, the platform will flag images that are generated by Artificial Intelligence (IA) published on social media. At the moment, technology now allows you to create or edit results that are very close to reality, which confuses many users of the virtual environment.
The announcement of the signage was made this Tuesday, 30, on the company's own official network, with the purpose of preventing the spread of fake news. For that, Community Notes will also be expanded to images. This is a feature that allows Twitter users themselves to warn about the veracity of certain content, until then text.
How will it work?
The space for the alert is located just below the tweet in question, with comments made by moderators. Now, When the user makes a comment, there will also be an option to link the warning information to the images and photographs published..
As per Twitter, This measure allows images with AI to be flagged and also prevents future copies.. I.e, even if someone downloads or takes a screenshot to republish the file, user signaling will remain active.
On an experimental basis, Community Notes were released in 2021 under the name Birdwatch, as a way to combat fake news. Until December 2022 the notes could only be seen by Twitter users residing in the United States.
Although, the resource took on global proportions and more countries gradually gained moderators who contribute to this function. In March this year, Community Notes arrived in Brazil, enabling registration for those interested in contributing.
Artificial photos that went viral
The use of Artificial Intelligence (IA) has also been followed on Twitter for a long time. The image was shared by several Twitter Blue subscribers and other websites.
